Artificial Intelligence saves feedstock in chemicals

The importance of using resources in a sustainable manner is widely recognized across the globe, given the massive amounts of coal, sandstone, iron ore, aluminum, and other minerals that are extracted each year. The reduction of raw material usage to produce the same output can contribute to a more sustainable planet, when combined with efforts to reduce, reuse, and recycle. However, achieving sustainability goals will be a long process. At OPTIMITIVE, we began our journey over 12 years ago with our first installation that helped to decrease the need for additives in a chemical water treatment plant. Now, we have been presented with another opportunity to make a significant contribution to this mission by assisting ANGUS Chemical Co. in minimizing raw material expenses, which aligns with both economic and sustainability objectives.

OPTIBAT® RTO achieves more than 5% raw material cost savings in US Chemical company

OPTIMITIVE is successful in the implementation of OPTIBAT ® real time optimization system in one of the globally leading US based chemical company, ANGUS Chemical Co. OPTIMITIVE’s main product, OPTIBAT ®, works as a smart assistant to process operators both in open and closed loop modes, at choice. OPTIBAT ® is in the crossroad of Big Data Analytics, Production Management Systems and Real Time Optimization by means of Artificial Intelligence, making OPTIMITIVE unique and different from other industrial optimization systems. ANGUS Chemical Co. was looking for an innovative method to optimize one of their critical sub processes, precisely on the TRIS AMINO™ tromethamine crystals fabrication process, an innovative and advanced crystal providing critical operation benefits when it comes to handling and preparation. ANGUS focus was mainly on cutting the production raw material cost while maintaining product quality standards and process stability.

By continuous monitoring and learning from plant operational data, OPTIBAT ® RTO recommended optimum set points for the raw material flows by governing quality parameters such as, Purity and UV absorbance, feedstock level and recirculated flow of recycled mother liquor to considerably reduce the production raw material cost.

A considerable amount of reduction in production raw material cost was achieved by OPTIBAT ® ensuring that the used mix is always the most cost efficient one. An automatic real time material cost update option was also provided.

Total raw material cost decreased by more than 5% during the testing and validation period respecting the final product quality and already validated processes stability, and so controlling the process in a safe and stable way. ANGUS is the latest case offered by OPTIMITIVE as part of the portfolio of customized solutions to the industries making an effort to optimize process efficiency and adding value to the industrial operations.
